Day 1

Kuching / Planet Borneo Lodge
Arrive in Kuching and transfer to Planet Borneo Lodge, our photographers’ rendezvous. Situated near the city, Planet Borneo Lodge is within walking distance to the water front, should you decide to take a walk along the Main Bazaar or take a sampan across the river. At 6pm, we will conduct a Pre-Brief of the expedition. We will tell you a bit more about the tour logistics and about this photography expedition, what you’ll encounter on our voyage and what the instructor will attend to teach you—composition, exposure, shutter speed control, portraiture rules, flash photograph and more.

Day 2

Planet Borneo Lodge / Serian Market / Batang Ai Jetty / Delok Longhouse
After breakfast at the lodge, we depart for Batang Ai on a 5 hour trip by road. Along the way, we will stop by Serian town to get ration for our expedition. Here, you will have your first on-field photo shoot at the Serian market. The market is one of the busiest markets as locals from the surrounding area of Serian and Kuching congregate here to get their weekly / monthly supplies. Your photography instructor will guide you to capture the lively atmosphere (portrait-macro-general scenery). We continue our journey to the Batang Ai jetty for our 2-hour longboat ride across the Batang Ai reservoir to the Delok Longhouse. Before the boat ride, you will be given some pointers on nature and outdoor photography while on the boat. Keep a heads up for birds too as the Batang Ai reservoir is teeming with birds such as the Brahminy Kite, Kingfishers and Broadbills. We arrive at the Delok Longhouse at about late afternoon for some light tea and snacks. Settle into the longhouse and wander around for your own photography / discovery of the longhouse: portrait, snapshots of the daily life in a longhouse. After dinner, you will be guided for a night photography session in the longhouse and you will get the chance to experiment photo shoot in low light condition and flash photography as well.

Day 3

Delok Longhouse / Kerangan / Batang Ai Longhouse Resort by Hilton
Breakfast at the longhouse and begin your day with a photo shoot in the field, guided by your instructor, who will make sure you capture the ambience of the longhouse and its very special light. A performance by the longhouse inhabitants will give you the opportunity to test your photography skills during a live show. You will experiment fast shutter speed and low shutter speed and will learn how to capture moving subjects, expressions, etc.
At about 11am, we will take a longboat up the Batang Ai river to Kerangan, a picnic spot. Here, the Iban people will prepare your lunch and catch fish in the river with their fishing nets. Your photographer instructor will guide you on the best angles and techniques to photograph this activity. After lunch, we will head back to the longhouse to say goodbye to the chief, grab your luggage and equipment, and head to the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort by Hilton. At the resort, we will have a review session. The Instructor will ask you to present your best shots and to explain why and how you shot it. Then your instructor will give you some post-processing tips if you would like to edit your shots and bring back stunning images.

Day 4

Batang Ai Longhouse Resort by Hilton / Planet Borneo Lodge / Kuching International Airport
After breakfast at the resort, we depart Batang Ai for our trip back to Kuching. We will return to Planet Borneo Lodge for our final De-Brief and for presentations of your certificates. You will then be transferred to the Kuching International Airport for your flight out or you may extend your stay to explore more of Kuching city.

• DSLR camera (compulsory)
• waterproof bag to protect your equipment (if you don’t have one just make sure that you have a plastic bag to protect it during the boat ride)

Equipment recommended:
The organizer may be able to loan some equipment with prior request from the client. This is, however, subject to availability of equipment and the client will be held liable should the equipment be returned faulty. Some of the equipment available for rent include;

• Macro lens
• Zoom lens
• Flash
• Tripod

Price Per Person: From RM2,139.00 per person (minimum of 8 pax to go and maximum of 10 pax)

INCLUDED: Half-board accommodation (3 nights) based on twin sharing a double/twin room (singles available upon request for a supplement), airport transfers, return transport between photographic locations, expert photographic guidance, all taxes and organisation.

NOT INCLUDED: Meals not mentioned in itinerary, drinks, tips, entrance fees.
