Day 1

0830hrs. Meet your guide at the hotel lobby for pick up to Delok Longhouse. The journey will be at 275km by road. Few stops will be made. First stop will be at the Serian Town. Serian is popular of its native market. A variety of jungle produce such as fruits, vegetables and herbs are on display for sale. Explore the market to identify some of it or you may join your guide to purchase some as a supply during the trip. Continue the journey to Lachau town for lunch stop. After lunch, continue drive again to Batang Ai jetty for a longboat pick up to Delok longhouse. The boat ride will take approximately 1 hour along Batang Ai man-made lake. A few different species of birds may be spotted along the ride. Upon arrival, meet the chief of the longhouse for a little welcoming as it is a custom of the Iban. Check in to a host family room. Explore the longhouse surrounding in order to witness/ understand the daily life of the Iban in the longhouse. The buildings are built on stilts which are still supported by wooden material. Local dinner with a host’s family/ chief. After dinner, sit at the ruai ( communal veranda) and listen stories of the Iban (headhunting, tattoing) or learn about their culture. (L/D)

Day 2

Breakfasts.  Take a longboat ride about 1hr to Batang Ai National Park.  Experience the adventurous boat ride through the small rapids at Batang Ai river.  The boat ride will pass by one of the oldest jungles in Sarawak.  Few different species of birds/animals may be spotted along the riverbank.  Upon arrival at the park, take one of the trails in order to search for the wildlife.  Batang Ai National Park was gazetted in 1991 in order to protect one species of apes called the Borneon Orang Utan that can still be found in that area, which is 90% of 1400 Orang Utan population in Sarawak. Other species of animals that still live in that area is gibbon, Argus Pheasant (Malaysian peacock), longtail/shortail macaque, wild boar, deer and honey bear.  You may hear the calls of any of those or you may encounter them if you are lucky!  Many different types of plants are found. Identify the plants that are normally used by the locals as food, medicine and building materials.  Take a swim in the river after enjoying your trek or you may participate in preparing the local lunch. Try the bamboo cooking! Take a longboat ride back to Delok Longhouse for overnight. Dinner. Evening free / chit chat with the local. (B/L/D)

Day 3

Breakfast. Take a longboat ride down to Batang Ai Jetty for the transfer to Kuching. Lunch enroute. Stop by at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to witness the afternoon feeding of the semi wild Orang Utan (1500 hours – 1600 hours). Continue the drive for the drop off at the hotel. (B/L)
